Stevens & Wilkinson designed three new school projects that opened in time for the 2009-2010 school year.

The Albert Simons Center for the Arts is located on the College of Charleston campus. Our firm renovated and expanded the existing 1970’s facility with a 75,000 square foot addition, adjacent to the College of Charleston’s historic Randolph Hall and central campus. The four-story building carries forward the rich tradition of earlier College of Charleston buildings with brick facades punctuated by metal windows and a standing seam roof. The design re-faces the existing building with a new lobby and courtyard facing St. Phillips Street. The renovation will upgrade the existing Robinson Theater and Music Theater and create a new and larger black-box performance space.

In September, the new Putnam County High School, located in Eatonton, Georgia, opened to rave reviews. This 177,000 square foot campus was designed for 1,200 ninth through twelfth grade students. The new high school is the first phase of a three-school master plan on 127 acres that was funded through a voter-approved, one-cent sales tax. Key facilities include classrooms, science labs, gymnasium with locker and weight rooms, multi-purpose fields, as well as a special education, career services and administrative suite.

The North Gwinnett County Middle School was dedicated on October 18th and is the third middle school prototype designed by Stevens & Wilkinson for Gwinnett County Public Schools. The 241,000 square foot facility is designed for 2,000, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. The middle school has a three-story classroom area which is divided into three levels.  Other key areas include a media center, gymnasium, music and orchestra, and other specialty classroom spaces.
